Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames exited Friday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants after being struck by a foul ball off the bat of Brian Anderson in the bottom of the second inning.
Adames was perched atop the top step of the Brewers dugout along the first-base line, hanging up by the railing, when Anderson lined a pitch from Giants pitcher Alex Wood directly toward the dugout.
Video from the third-base side of the field showed that the ball appeared to strike Adames in the side of the head. Adames’ head was turned to his right before the pitch was thrown; he then appeared to shift his vision back toward the plate right as Anderson swung.
Adames received attention from the Brewers medical staff for roughly two minutes in the dugout before retreating into the clubhouse for further treatment.
He was then taken to the hospital for scanning, according to the Brewers. Tests and evaluations were still being done as of mid-game.
Brice Turang replaced Adames at shortstop the following inning.
